£5k raid on shop caught on CCTV

- By JON BRADy

A DUNDEE businessman has slammed the thieves who stole phones and laptops worth £5,000 from his shop.

Moeez Tahir, manager at Tech Repairs on Strathmartine Road, is counting the cost after the crooks made off with the items, along with tablets and headphones.

A total of £40 in cash was also taken in the brazen robbery which was captured on CCTV.

Moeez, 28, pictured right, said: “They stole about 30 phones, five laptops, three tablets, two games consoles and a PC.

“We sell quite a lot of phones and a few people were going to buy these laptops, but now they’re gone.

“I’m very frustrated and very angry about the whole situation.”

The break-in occurred at around 1.40am yesterday.

CCTV footage shows two men, wearing hoods to hide their faces, using a crowbar to prise open the store’s front gate at around 12.45am.

They then returned with a third man to break the lock, ripping it from the frame, before raiding the store.

Broughty Ferry resident Moeez added: “The guy next door phoned me at about 7am to tell me that somebody had broken in so I came along right away.

“The police were here within about 10 to 15 minutes.

“The guys had used the sleeves of their jumpers to open cabinets so there are no fingerprints.

“We think they may have been here previously as customers. People have been in before asking if we have insurance for the shop.”

Despite the setback, Moeez has said he won’t let the thieves bring him down.

Having opened the shop just over a year ago, after a decade of repairing phones, he believes he can ride out any impact the break-in has had.

He added: “I’m confident the guys will be caught. They’re obviously going to try to sell the phones and other items they stole.

“I’ve spoken to a few shops to tell them about the phones and I have a few serial numbers for them and the laptops, so they can be flagged up.

“But I’m strong so I’m going to keep going. This job is my passion.”

Police Scotland has been asked to comment but had not responded at the time of going to press.
