A YOUNG journalist from Fife is fighting for survival following a deliberate house fire which claimed the life of her boyfriend.

Rebecca Williams, 24, who i s originally from Wormit, remains in a critical condition i n Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the devastating blaze on New Year’s Day which killed her partner Cameron Logan, 23.

The couple had been celebrating Hogmanay together before returning to Cameron’s family home in Achray Place, Milngavie, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police Scotland said a fire was later set deliberately at the semi-detached house.

Meanwhile, Rebecca, who is known as Bex, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, and officers i nv e s t i g a t i n g the incident say they are treating the case as murder and attempted murder.

Friends and colleagues of Bex, who works as a broadcast journalist at Global Radio, have been sending their messages of support as the popular 24-year-old remains in intensive care, while it is understood that her parents Phill and Lisa have travelled to Glasgow to be at their daughter’s bedside.

Detectives also revealed neighbours acted “heroically” following the fire and were able to rescue Bex from the house.

Bex, who attended Madras College in St Andrews and completed a BA (Hons) degree in multimedia journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2014, has been making a name for herself in radio journalism.
