Evening Telegraph (First Edition)

Leisure time is important for pupils too

-

I AM writing in response to the comments made by “Disciplinarian” in last week’s Evening Telegraph.

The writer’s middle name wouldn’t be Scrooge by any chance?

Perhaps the author of this letter has no contact with children at all. It certainly appears so.

December 23rd has nothing to do with Christmas, he/she says.

Well, quite apart from the fact that Christmas Day 2016 fell on a Sunday. So what?

Children look forward to Christmas and work hard at their studies the whole year round.

Many parents are actually glad of a little help from the kids to prepare for the big day.

As for teachers, most of them actually have families too. There is nothing wrong with finishing a little early to have time to get all the jobs done around the house before the festivities begin.

School work is very important — but so is leisure time.

The writer should maybe consider dragging themselves into the 21st Century.

George Spence.

I THINK “Disciplinarian” is the little boy or girl Santa forgot.

What a grumpy attitude to grudge children and teachers finishing early on the last day before the Christmas holidays!

When I was at school you were told bring in a game on the last day so it’s not like there’s a great deal of learning going on.

Live and let live.
