Fife fly high to win twice

-

FIFE Flyers took full points from their two games against Manchester Storm starting with a 4-2 victory in Altrincham and followed it up with a 3-1 win in Kirkcaldy last night.

In Altrincham on Saturday, Flyers gave a debut to new signing, Bryan Cameron.

After a fairly uneventful first period, largely dominated by the home side, Fife took the lead on 35 minutes through Ryan Dingle. The home side responded with two minutes left in the period when Taylor Dicken hit the equaliser.

Dingle added his second of the game on 48 minutes to put Flyers back in front and Sebastien Thinel added a third on 55 minutes to give Flyers a 3-1 lead.

Matt Bissonnette pulled the game back to 3-2 less than a minute later but, just 12 seconds after that, new signing Cameron scored his debut goal to complete the scoring and a 4-2 win for the Fifers.

In Kirkcaldy last night, it was a tight first period but, on 18 minutes, Manchester made the breakthrough with a goal from Paul Phillips on a delayed penalty. That proved to be the only counter of the opening stanza.

On 26 minutes Brooks was clipped as he went to shoot and, on the resultant penalty shot, he hit the post as Storm held on to their 1-0 advantage.

Manchester’s Adam Harding took a two-minute penalty for tripping after 31 minutes and, on the powerplay, Flyers tied the game with a counter from Brooks.

The home side took the lead with nine seconds remaining in the second stanza and it was their captain, Ryan Dingle, who found the net.

Manchester had two powerplay opportunities in the final period but failed to take either.

With just over one minute remaining, they pulled their goalie for the extra skater but Justin Fox homed in on a slack pass to fire into the empty net to give Flyers a 3-1 win.
