Jeanfield claim a point at Linlithgow
JEANFIELD earned a creditable Super League point in a 1-1 draw at Linlithgow.
Swifts had Steve Blair in goal deputising for regular keeper Mark Mitchell and he performed well. The Perth men were 1-0 down at the interval but got back on level terms thanks to a well-taken goal from Robbie Holden in 82 minutes.
Swifts’ Chris Scott had a great chance late on but his lob scraped the bar.
Broughty Athletic were nine minutes away from ending a run of six games without a win but were denied when Newtongrange grabbed an equaliser to share the points in a 1-1 draw.
The Fed should have taken the lead just after the half-hour mark when Kevin Buchan got on the end of a Paul McLellan cross but headed over when a goal looked certain.
But, 60 seconds later, the deadlock was broken when Jamie Winter found space 25 yards from goal and he unleashed a shot that flew into the top corner of the home net.
The home side upped the pressure in the second half, although Buchan had a chance to double the Fed’s lead but fired straight at the keeper. However, home pressure finally paid off in 81 minutes when a cross was flicked into the net by Kyle Lander.
Carnoustie eased their way through to the third round of the East of Scotland Cup with a fairlycomfortable 3-1 home win over Arbroath Vics.
The North League side battled hard but, in the end, the Gowfers had a bit too much for them.
They were two up at the break thanks to an own goal and a Gordon McDonald penalty and, although Vics pulled one back in the second half through a Lee Jones penalty, a second goal from McDonald saw the Gowfers safely through with a 3-1 victory.
