Young Stars side clock up wins

-

DUNDEE Stars U/14 continued on their path to league success with a 5-2 win against their North Ayrshire counterparts on Sunday at Dundee Ice Arena.

Their opponents came ready for battle and scored just a minute into the first period.

They held that lead until Stephen Scott netted the equaliser from a Jonny McBean assist. This was quickly followed by further goals from Ben Brown and Scott to bring the tally to a respectable 3-1 at the end of the first stanza.

One goal apiece, from Stars’ captain Josh Hamilton and North Ayr’s Harvey Hughes in the second period brought it to a close at 4-2.

Sam Knight slipped the puck between the legs of netminder Evan McTaggart to bring the final score to 5-2 Stars who retain their unbeaten record for the season.

Sonny Simpson was awarded Stars MOTM.

Elsewhere, Stars U/16 returned from the long trip to Dumfries with another valuable two points to move them into second spot in the league behind leaders Kirkcaldy.

A determined Solway side didn’t make it easy for the visitors, though, after taking a two-goal lead.

However, a double from MOTM Jack Terroni and markers from Dylan Denham and Douglas Cooper made sure the points returned to Tayside.

Manager Andy Crumley spoke highly of the young Stars’ efforts.

He said: “Due to a clash of fixtures, the U/16s went down with a depleted squad and had a couple of kids making their debuts for the team.

“In what was a pretty defensive game, everyone played brilliantly.”
