Weather takes its toll on junior card

- BY JUNICUS

NOT surprisingly, the junior fixture card took a battering on Saturday with only one game in the whole of the East Region beating the conditions.

The match that did go ahead saw Bonnyrigg Rose close the gap on leaders Kelty Hearts in the Super League following their 3-0 win over Newtongrange.

The Fifers still hold a healthy 14-point lead, however, although the Lothian side do have three games in hand.

For others it was a case of making do with whatever training facilities they could find or, in many cases, the players were given the day off.

Broughty Athletic fixed up a training session at the David Lloyd centre after their match against Broxburn was postponed to help keep them in trim for this week’s big Scottish Cup tie against Sauchie.

The Fed have recalled defender Frankie Lannen from his loan spell with Newburgh.

Lannen suffered a foot injury at the end of last season and he was sent out on loan to the Fife side to help him regain his match fitness.

Lannen has played regularly for the Fifers helping them into ninth position in the league after they took only a single points from their first six matches.

It’s a case of one in and one out at The Canniepairt following Tayport’s transfer activity in the last couple of weeks.

They have re-signed Gary Sutherland from North End but have lost Grant Mowatt after the former Montrose Roselea player mutually agreed a move was best for club and player.

Tayport have placed midfielder Connaire Connelly on the transfer list. Interested clubs should contact either John Morris on 07889 170364 or Jon Ovenstone on 07787 257257.

Meanwhile, Montrose Roselea hit the headlines on Saturday after trouncing Fochabers 16-0 in a North Region fixture.

Former Arbroath man Kane Hester bagged seven of the goals while Kyle McLeod scored five and there were doubles for Joe Reoch and Liam Bailey.

It is the second time this season that the luckless north side have l ost by a double-figure margin.
