ROUND-UP Mixed fortunes for Dundee side indoor in Perth

THE National Indoor hockey season is nearing its conclusion.

At Bell’s in Perth on Saturday, Grove Menzieshil­l men had a 5-3 loss to Inverleith, the 2015-16 title holders, but recovered to beat Clydesdale 7-3. Inverleith also had another win, 10-4 over Western Wildcats

In the other Division One pool, Kelburne continued their impressive indoor season with wins over Grange (10-3) and Uddingston (13-4) and look favourites to win their firstever national indoor title to add to 12 outdoors.

In Division Two at DISC, MJV Dundee Wanderers beat Falkirk 8-0 and Edinburgh University 3-1 in a hard game for a place in the final.

After the students took an early lead, Fergus Sandison levelled just before half-time.

The students continued to play some impressive hockey but two more goals by Sandison secured a hard-fought win and a game against Menzieshil­l II in the gala day.

As Menzieshil­l’s seconds cannot be promoted to Division One, Wanderers return to the top division after a season’s absence.

Menzieshil­l had wins over Perthshire (11-0) and Watsonians (8-1).

Perthshire later had a 9-3 win over Granite City Wanderers to preserve their Division Two status with Adam Czub netting a hat-trick.

In the Ladies Division One, a hat-trick by Vikki Bunce was the main part of Dundee Wanderers 6-1 win over GroveMenzi­eshill, who then recovered to beat Western Wildcats 5-0.

A 7-0 win over Inverleith kept Wanderers on track for another Division One title but the battle is not yet over. In the other pool, Edinburgh University had wins over MCC Western (6-3) and CALA (4-3).

Division Two saw Dundee Wanderers II l ose 7-1 to Watsonians and 9-4 to Kelburne but have a 3-1 win over Grove II, who lost 2-1 to MCC Western.

In Division Three, Perthshire Ladies lost to Grange 10-1 and CALA II 4-2.

In the Midland Ladies Indoor League, scores were Strathalla­n 2 GroveMenzi­eshill 1, Kinross 2 Wanderers II 6 and Monarchs 1 Wanderers I 15.

Tonight there are only two games, Strathalla­n v St Andrews University and Wanderers I v Wanderers II.

On the 31st, the only, and final, game is Wanderers I v Strathalla­n.

In the Midland Men’s Division One at the Douglas Centre it was a three-game schedule to decide the final placings.

Inverleith had a 1-1 draw against Dundee Wanderers II but the guest team from Edinburgh then had a 2-0 penalty shootout win for third place.

In the fifth/sixth place game, Monarchs I beat Harris I 7-4, with Callum Boag netting four for Monarchs.

Wanderers I had a 4-0 win over Menzieshil­l II for the title with goals from Bobby Ralph (2) and one each for Bruce Rowan and Fergus Sandison.

This Thursday, it’s Division Two with Harris II v Menzieshil­l III, Monarchs II v Menzieshil­l IV and Wanderers IV v Wanderers III to decide the league placings before the play-off games on February 2. Perthshire I don’t play and have an uncatchabl­e lead of eight points.

In Division Three, scores were Wanderers VI 5 Menzieshil­l VI 2, Monarchs III 4 Menzieshil­l V 5, Wanderers VII 1 Harris III 2 and Menzieshil­l V 12 Wanderers VI 2.
