Scots are frozen out in Spain
THE Scottish men’s hockey squad have been in Spain for warm-weather training which included two games against Russia.
Russia won the first encounter 2-1 and the second game was a 2-2 draw. The third game was off due to a frozen pitch.
Alan Forsyth and Chris Grassick have been selected for the full-time men’s Great Britain senior programme for the new Olympic cycle working towards Tokyo 2020.
The Scottish Indoor schedule for this weekend is light and is followed on February 4 by the gala day at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth. It includes nine games covering all leagues with titles and relegation to be decided. Play starts at 9.05am and presentations will be from 6pm.
The two games to end the day’s play will be for the ladies then the men’s titles at 4pm and 5pm respectively.
This Saturday, DISC hosts the men’s eight Division One games. The big question is can Bromac Kelburne continue their impressive campaign?
They have won Pool A and go into the pool crossover games against either Menzieshill or Western Wildcats. That’s the last game of the day at 4.15pm. This is not a game to miss and admission to DISC is free.
The day’s play starts at 9am with Kelburne v Hillhead in an eight-game schedule with Grove Menzieshill v Western scheduled for 10.55am.
At Dundee University Sports Hall, there are nine games in Regional B with Menzieshill III v MJV Dundee Wanderers III first on at 9.15am. Midlands are also represented by St Andrews University and the Midland teams play in all but one of the games.
On Saturday, the U/18 Girls Scottish Indoor Cup is in Bell’s main hall.
On Sunday, the Ladies Division One is also in Bell’s main hall with MJV Dundee Wanderers and Grove Menzieshill involved. Grove require a win over Inverleith to ensure a place in the title play-off games in the afternoon. Wanderers, Edinburgh University and MCC Clydesdale Western are already there.
Ged Curran from Dundee has been promoted to the International Hockey World Panel list for umpire managers.
