Changes in city centre are exciting

-

IN response to the letter from Fed up, I cannot help but feel you are missing the point.

Jobs don’t just materialise out of thin air. All of the work going on at the Waterfront is creating construction jobs and once they are completed, will create jobs for the people to run them.

The V&A will need staff, as will the new train station/hotel and the various other hotels and businesses currently springing up around the city centre, not to mention many other big names who are interested in coming to Dundee.

If you have read the news you will know Camperdown Park is to play host to a music festival and Slessor Gardens is hosting UB40 and Little Mix — one of the biggest bands in the UK right now — which is going to draw crowds of thousands and generate income for Dundee and create jobs such as security guards at these events.

Personally I think these are exciting times for Dundee and I say well done to Dundee City Council for their efforts so far in improving our city.

Look at the bigger picture.

ROME was not built in a day — I’m sure that’s how the saying goes.

Yet some of the good residents of Dundee seem hell bent on bashing the Waterfront development at every opportunity.

“We should be spending the money on jobs”, “We should be spending the money on housing” are the most common demands — yet here we are with hundreds of new affordable homes being built and plans to create 2,000 jobs between March this year and 2019.

So perhaps Fed up, who bemoaned the development, and anyone else that moans about it can now wheesht!

Apologies must of course go to anyone who feels that instead of building a long-term solid future for Dundee they should rather receive a direct hand-out from the coffers today.

Stop being so short-sighted and instead focus on the long-term plans for the city.

The plans that will see even more inward investment to create jobs will enable the building of more affordable homes and that will make Dundee an even more colourful and beautiful city than it already is and set it up for future generations.

Fed up of negative Noras.
