Team respond to Spiders manager

-

IN the Premier League, Downfield manager Paul Marr got the reaction he was looking for at Haddington when the Spiders ended a run of four matches without a win with a 3-1 victory over the Lothian side.

Goals from Marc O’Leary and Ryan Rigden gave the Spiders a two-goal cushion and, even although the hosts reduced the leeway, a Craig Smith penalty sealed the points.

In addition to signing Lochee United duo Charlie Cargill and Ross Gallagher, Downfield have also signed Ross Lunan while Robert Smith will begin a second spell at the club after a couple of seasons with Glenrothes.

Violet’s task looks even harder after suffering a 2-0 home defeat by Arniston. The result leaves the Pansies rooted at the foot of the table on eight points.

After an even start, the visitors went ahead in seven minutes when a cross found Chris Tobin unmarked in the box and he slotted home.

The second goal came in 23 minutes and, once again, the home defence looked culpable when they allowed Mike Langdale to burst through and his cross was swept into the net by Lumbert Kataleza.

The Pansies had their moments, notably a good effort from Ryan Dignan which forced a fine save from Arnie keeper Andy Ritchie.

However, overall, the visitors looked the more composed side and deserved their victory.

St Andrews boss Craig Morrison was pleased with his side’s performance at Dalkeith Thistle despite going down to a late winner.

PaulTansey put Dalkeith in front but Daryl Falconer levelled. Stewart Adams scored the winner for the Lothian side in added time.
