Dance studio streets ahead of the rest!

-

THE owner of a Dundee street dance studio has thanked the Tele for helping them to win a national video dance competition.

The troupe from the Launch Pad on Buttars Loan and RC Dance, based at the DISC, came up with a street dance gaming concept for their video.

Laura Morrison said everyone was “very excited” by the news that they had won Cut It Up’s Video Battle 2016.

The announcement came on January 31, taking the group by surprise.

“We expected to hear via Twitter so we had just assumed it wasn’t our year,” said Laura.

“But I checked my email and there it was, news that our video had been judged the best in the country.

“We also won £1,000 for the studio, and that’s just great for us to build on what we have here.”

Laura said that an article in the Tele in December, which revealed their desire to win the online competition, was invaluable in helping them secure the top spot.

“Our video received more than 5,000 views on YouTube,” she said.

“The original article from the Tele definitely helped us gain enough views to be chosen for the shortlist of videos in the final, along with all the local support we received.

“The final 10 videos with the most likes were entered into the judging process and without all the support we may not have reached the view goal.

“The kids arranged the choreography themselves and made the costumes.

“These are Dundee kids and they were so creative in coming up with this in their own time.”

Laura said she felt the group had done a fantastic job of showcasing their city as well as the best of street dance.

“It’s just great to be chosen as the best,” she added.
