Not enough room for all to park cars

-

I’M fed up of hearing the moans of my fellow Westenders that commuters are taking all the parking spaces.

Sure, some do, but that’s no different to other parts of Dundee.

The real problem is the number of houses that don’t have adequate space to park.

Residents have to hunt about in other streets to find somewhere to leave their vehicles.

There are 207 flats on Bellefield Avenue/ bottom of Seafield and Roseangle — but only 112 spaces in the streets and at the Roseangle car park combined.

Even assuming there’s only one car per flat, where do the other 95 cars go?

Cars being “parked all day” are just as likely to be local residents who have walked to the university or town but don’t have space to park at their house.

Even at a £1 per space you’re hardly going to park at the Greenmarket then walk back to your house.

The inconvenient truth is that the core of the problem is much closer to home.

What’s needed is new houses to have at least a car space for each adult living there and for construction of new parking sites.

How about a new car park on the old railyards area that’s been vacant for many years?

Judging by the quality of the one built at Yeaman shore it shouldn’t cost much to create.
