Ford races to super win

TOM Ford made a perfect 147 break as he beat Peter Ebdon 5-2 in the first round of the German Masters in Berlin.

World No 37 Ford, from Leicester, completed the third competitive maximum of his career in the second frame of the match.

He previously achieved the feat at the 2007 Grand Prix and 2012 Bulgarian Open.

His latest 147 is the 10th this season following maximums from Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Stephen Maguire, Shaun Murphy, Alfie Burden, John Higgins, Mark Allen, Ali Carter, Ross Muir and Mark Davis.

UK Masters champion Ronnie O’Sullivan let slip a 4-1 lead to lose 5-4 to Mark King.

O’Sullivan looked to be cruising i nto the second round after making successive breaks of 74, 69 and 81 to forge into a three-frame lead.

However, King hit back with scores of 93 and 77 to close the gap to 4-3 before winning the final two frames as well, 68-28 and 71-26, to stun the Londoner.

Zhao Xintong made breaks of 95, 64 and 103 on his way to a 5-0 win against Akani Songsermsawad and Ryan Day beat Mark Allen 5-1.

Defending champion Martin Gould made the best possible start by white washing Jamie Jones 5-0, which included a break of 126 in the second frame.

Jimmy White’s recent resurgence was halted by Robin Hull after a see-saw encounter ended 5-4.

Hull compiled a break of 125 to level the match at 4-4 and followed up with a halfcentury in the decider to clinch his second round place.

Ali Carter also made a century break with a score of 112 i n the second frame setting him up for a 5-1 win against Stephen Maguire.
