Harp squad boost for long trek north

- BY JUNICUS

IT’S back to cup football for many clubs this week, with the third round of the GA Engineering Cup bringing together sides from Tayside and the North.

Lochee Harp face one of the longest journeys, with the Beechwood men making the trek to Fraserburgh.

Mark Kelly and Joe Colquhoun return after missing the last match against Lochore while Derryn Kesson returns after suspension.

The Beechwood side have lost Cammy McMahon after his loan deal was ended by Lochee United.

However, they have signed Connaire Connelly from Tayport, although he is ineligible to play against Fraserburgh as he is cup-tied. Broughty Athletic travel to face Culter. The Fed are looking to get their season back on track after failing to win any of their last eight league matches.

Last week’s 5-2 loss at Camelon was a bitter pill to swallow and assistant manager Charlie King is adamant they can stop the rot but they must cut out silly mistakes.

He said: “We didn’t play all that badly at Camelon but, once again, the loss of two early goals in the second half put us on the back foot. It will be a hard game at Culter but we have worked hard in training and will be ready for another battle.”

Apart from Brian Clark, who remains on the injured list, everyone else is fit and available for selection.

Violet were also given an away tie and they have been handed a difficult task against Hall Russell, who currently sit fourth in the Super League.

Kevin Scott, Gavin Hood, Ryan Dignan and Barry Wilson all ruled out through injuries, while new signing Chris Tawse and Craig Batchelor are both ill and unlikely to be fit.

Tayport’s tie against Sunnybank has been switched to The Canniepairt as the Aberdeen side have a burst water main at their ground.

’Port player/boss John Ovenstone is struggling to shake off a hamstring injury and faces a late fitness test.
