Stars looking to build on their Braehead form

-

TONIGHT Dundee CCS Stars look to build on their impressive victory against Braehead Clan last Sunday when they take on Edinburgh Capitals in Dundee Ice Arena (7.30pm).

Stars came from 4-1 behind to beat Clan in a penalty shootout that gave them two valuable points in their quest for a play-off place.

A win tonight would see them close the gap on Coventry, one place above them, and also put daylight between them and Capitals, who are bottom.

The last time Stars took on the men from Murrayfield in Dundee was earlier this month when the Taysiders scored six goals without reply to win the points.

Stars have also won the other three encounters in Dundee this season, scoring 18 times and losing only six goals. However, Capitals are a dangerous side and will need to be treated with respect.

Dundee then travel to Yorkshire tomorrow to face a Sheffield Steelers side who still have their sights on the league title.

Steelers currently sit third in the table, eight points behind leaders Cardiff and have a game in hand on the Welshmen.

Stars’ director, Stephen Ward said: “It was a fantastic fightback by the team against Braehead on Sunday and we are looking to take that form into the game against Edinburgh tonight.

“Capitals are a good side who will give us a difficult game but confidence is high and the players are capable of getting the result we need.

“Sheffield is a difficult place to go but the team has worked hard all week and there is no reason why we can’t take something from the game.

“We are on the run-in to the play-offs so it’s important we pick up as many points as we can to secure a spot.

“Coach Marc LeFebvre has the team buzzing and, as we have shown, we are capable of beating anyone on the day.”

Stars are hopeful they will have a full roster to choose from for both games.

Fife Flyers lost both fixtures last weekend, 5-2 in Braehead to Clan and 2-1 to Cardiff Devils in Kirkcaldy.

Tomorrow they face Edinburgh Capitals in Kirkcaldy (7.15 pm) and follow that with another home game on Sunday, this time to Nottingham Panthers (6.30 pm).
