Dundee derby on Sunday

-

ON Sunday at 6.30pm, Dundee Tigers face Dundee Comets in the Scottish National League in what promises to be a frenetic encounter at Dundee Ice Arena.

Comets came out on top when the two met in December and are in a battle for top spot in the league, whereas Tigers are languishing in midtable with a point to prove.

Ahead of the game, Tigers assistant manager John Robb stated: “There’s an air of tension in the dressingroom for this weekend’s game.

“When we played Comets earlier in the season, we shipped two early goals but competed for the rest of the match.

“Since then, Comets have hit a good streak of form but our performances have been mixed.

“We’ve got a couple of guys carrying niggles and will be without Mark McLeod and Robbie Barnett due to long-term injuries.

“New signing Marc Leggatt will play his first home game since returning to the club and he’s looked very effective in training.

“Derby games are always pretty special and we hope we can pick ourselves up after last week’s loss and put in the kind of show we’re capable of.”

DUNDEE Comets ran out 3-2 winners against a formidable Scotland U/19 side at DIA last night.

The match started at a furious pace with the young Scots having the best of the chances but “home” netminder Matthew Michie proved hard to beat as he turned away several great chances to finish the opening period 0-0.

A minute after the restart, Scotland defender Martyn Simpson caught Michie out with a long shot.

Comets began to take control as the game wore on and a double from Ross Johnston put the SNL side ahead.

Bill Baxter increased the lead with a wellworked play with John Dolan on the 48-minute mark.

However, a stray pass let Dundee youngster Ben Macfarlane in to set up Fife’s Caly Robertson to pull the deficit back and that’s how it ended.
