Cops called after teacher ‘attacks’
Officers attended Dens Road Primary following reports that a number of teachers had been injured by the youngster. It’s understood that the school is now working with the child’s family on the matter.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed officers had been called to an incident at the school shortly before 11am on Friday.
However, she was unable to give any further information.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “Police Scotland was called by a school. It would not be appropriate to comment further.”
Councillor Stewart Hunter, the council’s education convener, added: “I am aware of the issue and I understand that the school is working with the family to see if something can be done.”
One mum who didn’t want to be named said she felt the school had done the right thing by calling the police. She said: “I don’t think the school would have called the police for no reason.
“It was obviously serious enough that they felt the need to get police involved.
“At t he end of the day they have to protect themselves and the other pupils.
“If they had done nothing about it and parents found out there could be quite a few parents angry about it.”
However, some parents at the school today said they felt that calling police to the school to deal with incidents like these was excessive.
Lucy Dewar, 21, who has a youngster at the nursery, said: “I wouldn’t be happy if it was my child who had the police called on them.
“Obviously children shouldn’t be attacking or biting anyone but I don’t think the school should have called the police.
“Parents should be called in and it dealt with that way.
“It’s embarrassing for the family as well. It should be dealt with privately but because the police are involved it reflects badly on the school, giving it a bad reputation.”
Another parent, whose daughter is in P5, called the situation “ridiculous”.
She said: “It seems very excessive. These are children at the end of the day.”
