Wanderers Ladies win the league

THE Midland Ladies Indoor Hockey League was won by MJV Dundee Wanderers with a 12-3 win over Strathallan U/18 at the Douglas Sports Centre.

Wanderers goals were by Emily Dark (5), Amy Snelle (4), Ruth Blaikie, Katie Mulholland and Rachael Osborne while Izzi Folan (2) and Alexa Schroder scored for Strathallan.

Wanderers I have won the league with Wanderers II and Strathallan joint second then Kinross, Grove, Monarchs, Wanderers III and St Andrews University following.

Scores on Saturday in the Midland Ladies Knockout Cup round one were — Grove III 4 St Andrews University III 1, Kinross II 1 Brechin Thistles 3, Monarchs 0 Dundee Wanderers II 2, St Andrews University IV 0 Blairgowrie 3, Perthshire II 4 Madras FP 0 and, in Midland Division One, Perthshire II 3 St. Andrews University III 3.

This Saturday, there is a full Midland Ladies Division One and Two programme of outdoor hockey and, hopefully, reasonable weather for it. In the ladies National Outdoor Division Two, St Andrews University visit George Heriot’s.

The Men’s National Division Two also has three rescheduled games but no Midland involvement.

Following the loss of the National Indoor Division One title to Menzieshill on Saturday, Inverleith have to regroup for the European Club Trophy at Sveti Zelina in Croatia this weekend. Their performance will dictate at which level the ’Hill play in Europe 2018.

Coach Stuart Neave is optimistic and has a fullstrength squad heading out tomorrow.

Their pool opposition is Slagelse (Denmark) and HC Rotweiss Wettingen (Switzerland) then, on Friday, Athletico Clube de Portugal on Saturday followed by a pool crossover game then a placing game on Sunday.

The other pool is HV Minsk, Racing Club de Bruxelles, Bohemians Prague and host club HK Zelina.

Scottish umpire for the weekend is Gavin Cruickshanks (Menzieshill).

The following weekend Dundee Wanderers Ladies play in the women’s trophy at Siauliai, Lithuania, from the 17th-19th.
