Forecasters warn temperatures could drop to -10C
THE February cold snap is set to continue in Dundee and Tayside, according to forecasters.
The Met Office says that temperatures will be “particularly cold” for the next few days.
The mercury struggled to reach any more than 2C at the weekend — and the chilly feel is likely to continue for several days.
Overnight temperatures around Tayside are set to be below freezing throughout the week — and could drop to as low as -10C in some areas.
That’s in contrast to temperatures during the last couple of weeks which ranged from 8-10C across the city.
Tayside will generally see clearer breaks this week but easterly winds from the North Sea will push clouds and wintery showers into the region.
These showers may turn to sleet at lower temperatures and snow on higher ground.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Flow from easterly winds coming off of the North Sea will certainly make it seem colder than it is.
“The chill will give the weather that bitter feeling, making it feel colder than the actual temperature.”
The spokesman added: “We are in for some very cold nights and some cold mornings.
“Drops in temperature below -10C are unlikely but if snow falls and freezes overnight it is possible.”
Towards the end of the week, easterly winds will turn to southerly and will begin to warm parts of the UK.
Dundee will be slow to feel the change with the first noticeable increase in temperature coming at the weekend, with the possibility of 4-5C.
The spokesman said this year’s February weather is typical for the time of year.
