X FACTOR talent scouts have been checking out the best talent Tayside has to offer.

Open auditions were held in Dundee and Perth on Friday and Saturday respectively, giving people the chance to try impress the scouts.

To see if the Tele had any future stars among its staff, we sent reporter Steven Rae to try to see if he could put Dundee on the map.

Would it be a yes or a no? Wilkie, 47, a barmaid from St Mary’s. She said: “The audition went OK I think — the guys were really nice. I auditioned because I’m sick of my family nipping my head to do it. I sing in a band at weekends so they keep saying I should audition. I was the very first to audition in Dundee.”

Meanwhile, Dundee High School pupil Verity Brown said her love of jazz music and singing had given her the motivation to apply.

The 18-year-old, from Claverhouse, sung the track Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, originally a hit for the Shirelles but sung in the style of her favourite vocalist, the l ate Amy Winehouse.

She said: “Singing is my passion. I love jazz and perform as a jazz musician and singer. I’ve been involved with choirs and theatre groups and applied for Britain’s Got Talent about eight years ago. It’s a difficult industry and I can’t expect to get through but it would be fantastic if I did.”

Rather than a stage or television studio, the auditions were held privately in a small cubicle with one judge and one cameraman, although some shoppers caught a glimpse of me from the upper level of the mall.

In the end, I decided to sing U2’s hit One which I’ve performed at karaoke in the past with varying degrees of success depending on my level of inebriation at the time.

While definitely no match for Bono in hitting the high notes, I think I did well.

However, I decided to save the best for last and performed a short rap
