Probe launched by bus firm over ‘pass snatch’

- By ADAm HIll

AN investigation has been launched after claims that a Dundee boy had his bus pass “snatched” from him by a driver.

Tammy McKay, 26, told the Tele that her six-year-old son Kai — who suffers from epilepsy — was boarding a number 15 Xplore Dundee bus heading towards the town.

The Whitfield mum claims that a mix-up with Kai’s pass (pictured below) saw the driver take it and tell him to leave the bus.

She said Kai had previously lost his bus pass and had been issued with a new one.

He had subsequently found his original pass which he had with him on the day of the incident but it was not valid.

Kai was with Tammy’s partner Alan Nicoll, 28, at the time.

Tammy said: “He had picked up the wrong pass so it didn’t work and the driver just snatched it out of his hand and told them to get off the bus.

“I don’t see why he wouldn’t allow him to travel — it was a disabled bus pass.

“I think that’s a horrible way to treat a disabled kid.

“Kai is now scared to get on the bus — the whole thing has really knocked his confidence.

“Later on that day, he had to get another bus when he was again with Alan and it was the same driver.”

Alan said: “To be treated like that is ridiculous — I just don’t think that is the way anyone should be acting to a child.”

A spokeswoman for Xplore Dundee issued an apology to the family and pledged to investigate the circumstances.

She said: “We are sorry for the bad experience this customer has had on board our bus and have apologised to her and her family for any distress caused.
