Mackie seals vital points for Tayport

-

IN the Premier League, Tayport dug deep to pick up three valuable points against visiting Armadale.

Armadale made a lively start and forced a fine save from home keeper Gavin Sorley and it proved crucial as the hosts took the lead in 28 minutes.

A Gary Sutherland pass found the onrushing Marc Ogg and he fired low into the Armadale net.

But home joy didn’t last long asThistle hit back two minutes later courtesy of a smartly-taken free-kick.

In 38 minutes, the Fifers regained the advantage when a Dale Reid pass found Sutherland and the striker marked the beginning of his second spell in Tayport colours by slamming home from close range.

The home side missed a few chances in the second half but eventually made sure of the points with 15 minutes to go. Sergio Alvarez linked up well with Jamie Mackie before the latter finished well to seal a hard-fought victory.

Injury-ravaged Forfar West End still managed to beat Bathgate but it was a close run thing, scoring their winner in stoppage time.

The visitors’ bright start was rewarded by a Robbie Feeney goal after 10 minutes. West End gradually came more into the game and Graeme Hart slammed home the leveller 10 minutes from the break.

Deep into stoppage time, Scott Fullerton was brought down in the box and Matty Ramsay netted the spot-kick to ensure West End stay second.

Only disappointment for St Andrews was the result at Tranent, where they were unfortunate to go down by the odd goal in three.

Having had much the better of the exchanges, a late Jack Wright goal saw the Lothian side steal victory. Earlier, Kane Paterson had given the hosts the lead but an Aiden Hendry drive took a wicked deflection to level just before the break.
