David’s helped make learning fun for kids all over the world
the world that he is best known for. David has helped to deliver education in countries such as Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Turkey, on topics like science, maths and English.
He has also helped to provide classroom supplies and stationery for existing schools.
David said: “It’s been a hard slog the last few years — but the kids need someone who has got their back. It could be your child or mine who needs that help.”
THE Opportunities Project was Highly Commended for its work in tackling deprivation. The voluntary scheme, set up to provide IT training on topics ranging from applying for jobs or benefits to booking holidays, operates in the Central Library and has helped hundreds embrace new technology.
Jayne Gair, library performance leader, said: “To be highly commended is fantastic. It’s great for the volunteers to be recognised for all the work they put in.”
DR David Hamilton was given a posthumous nomination in recognition of his flourishing career in education. Dundee native Dr Hamilton, who died in a snowmobile accident last year, was remembered for the love of his home city.
MONIFIETH High School head teacher Mrs MC McInally was shortlisted for her work in forging links between the school and local community organisations since joining the school three-and-a-half years ago.
