LeFebvre: ‘Wins were deserved’

-

STARS’ coach Marc LeFebvre said after the two weekend wins: “That was a huge weekend for us but we deserved the wins and it puts us in a great position to make the play-offs.

“There is still a way to go but we will take care of own games and not worry about anyone else.

“We recovered well on Saturday after going two goals down against Fife but we made some adjustments to our game and I thought we won well in the end.

“Same thing last night when we went one down. We didn’t panic and settled into our game.

“I thought their goalie was great in both games and, but for him, our wins could have been more convincing.

“We are playing well and credit must go to the players who have bought into everything we have said to them and now we need to keep that form going for the rest of the season.”

Prior to their two defeats against Stars, Fife Flyers travelled to Braehead on Friday where they suffered an 8-5 loss at the hands of Clan

Scott Pitt opened the scoring for Clan on four minutes but two goals in 48 seconds from Ryan Dingle on 11 minutes gave Flyers a 2-1 lead.

Braehead responded with an equaliser from Cody Carlson but, two minutes later, Dingle completed his hat-trick to put Fife back in front.

Just 19 seconds after Dingle’s goal, the home side were back on level terms with a counter from Matt Keith. Then with 38 seconds left on the clock, Cody Cowick scored a fourth goal for Clan to end a pulsating opening period.

The middle session belonged to the home side and Stefan Della Rovere put them 5-3 ahead on 24 minutes.

Just under one minute later, Cowick grabbed his second of the game for 6-3, then the same player completed his hat-trick on 30 minutes to make it 7-3 to Braehead going into the final stanza.

Carlo Finucci netted a short-handed goal for the Kirkcaldy side on 45 minutes, then Matt Sisca pulled the game back to 7-5 two minutes later.

Then Pitt scored on the powerplay to give Clan an 8-5 victory.
