Bluebells seal win with first-half blitz

A PURPLE patch in the last quarter of the first half saw Lochee United score four goals against Camelon and virtually finish the Super League game as a contest.

TheThomson Park side took the lead in 28 minutes when a cross from the left was nodded in at the far post by Reece Ritchie.Then, four minutes later, Bryan Deasley burst into the box and beat the keeper at the near post with an angled drive.

Before the dust had settled, the Bluebells went three up in 34 minutes thanks to a terrific 25-yard drive from Jamie Montgomery.

The Camelon heads were now well and truly down and it got even worse for them in 40 minutes when the unmarked Greg Kirk knocked in a fourth at the far post to complete the scoring. Jeanfield drew 3-3 at home to Broxburn. A Lewis Baker double had Swifts 2-0 up at the break. However, the visitors hit back and led 3-2 as the game entered the final few minutes. But Jeanfield player/boss Ross Gunnion came to the rescue when he headed in an equaliser.

Broughty Athletic are through to the third round of the East of Scotland Cup after a 2-0 win over Lochgelly after the tie was switched to Whitton Park.

The Fed broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart when a pass from Grant Lawson found Kevin Buchan 25 yards out and he fired home.

Broughty were now in total control but it took them until the final minute to seal the tie when a Buchan pass found James Collier, who made it 2-0.

Kirrie Thistle beat Newburgh Thistle 7-0 in the GA Cup at Westview Park.

A Bryan Duell treble was added to by goals from Stewart Russell, Darren Scott (2) and an own goal.
