Not the SNP disrespecting 55% of voters

-

TO United we stand: what a strange name when you appear fine with British nationalism.

Let’s be clear here, Nicola Sturgeon has almost begged Westminster to talk.

Her first option is to keep Scotland in the UK and the UK in the single market — that respects the 55% who voted no.

Her second option is to keep Scotland in the single market within the UK — that also respects the 55% who voted no.

The first option has been refused without discussion. If the other option is dismissed then it’s Westminster that is disrespecting the 55%.

Both those options are called a compromise as Scotland voted 62% to remain in the EU.

I would say it’s time to respect the 45% that voted for independence and the 62% that voted to remain in the EU.

And as for your other point regarding EU membership: the EU is talking already about fast-tracking Scotland in as we are already EU citizens.

I do find it strange we will lose the UK to trade with.

Are you suggesting the UK is looking for trade worldwide, including the EU, but just not with Scotland?

Rod Selbie.

UNLIKE United we stand and SNP no more — who certainly seem politically motivated to undermine the work the SNP Government is doing in Scotland and the SNP members of the UK Parliament in opposing the Tories’ austerity and anti Scottish bias — I believe the Scottish electorate at large support them if not wholeheartedly, certainly by a large majority.

Of course the SNP wants to have an independent Scotland as do many others of different political parties.

Labour no longer has the support of the Scottish people.

The only hope for a progressive, socially responsive Scotland in this now uncertain and dangerous world is to support the SNP and become the confident, pluralist country we know we can be.

M. McKenzie.
