Rip-off prices not the ticket

-

WHENEVER demand outstrips supply there will be people waiting in the wings to cash-in — and that is never more evident than when fans are clamouring for tickets for big music or sports events (see page 19).

Such is the case for the Little Mix and Olly Murs concerts booked for Dundee’s Slessor Gardens later this year.

Only a finite number of briefs are available for the shows and those who missed out when they were made available through official channels are now faced with paying hugely inflated prices to get their hands on them from resale outlets.

Dundee councillor Richard McCready’s calls for the local authority to act to stop fans being “ripped off” are clearly wellintentioned, but it is hard to see what can be done.

No laws are being broken, and any ticket holder — not just the big resale organisations — is free to sell on their brief to the highest bidder.

Unfortunately, it is a sour note any venue which hosts big music events probably just has to live with.
