Perth hosts major cricket event

PERTH-based Live Active Leisure will welcome over 150 cricketers from across Scotland to the largest indoor cricket event of its type tomorrow and Sunday.

Players from Dundee, Fife, Stirling, Edinburgh and Perthshire will meet at Bell’s Sports Centre for a weekend of sport that will see juniors, veterans, women’s teams and league players come together for the inaugural two-day event.

Stephen Boyd, Cricket Developmen­t Officer for Live Active Leisure commented: “Thanks to ongoing funding support by The Gannochy Trust, Perth’s cricket profile within Scotland is soaring.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to the event with over 150 players registered to take part across four different groups.

“From grass roots cricketers in the U/11 category tomorrow to veterans teams kicking off the day on Sunday it looks set to be an exciting weekend of sport.

“This is the first time Scottish players have had the opportunit­y to take part i n such a large indoor event and we’re delighted to be hosting it here in Perth at Bell’s Sports Centre.

“Feedback suggests it has provided the ideal stimulus for teams to get together to compete as the countdown to the Scottish season begins.

“And, with so many great teams on board, we’re encouraged into predicting a successful first event.”
