When approached today, Liam’s family declined to speak to the Tele.

Friends and family have paid tribute to him in a series of posts online.

Pals have also set up a fundraising page to help Liam’s family, with a target of £6,000.

A post on the page said that pupils from Glenrothes High School “have come together” to support his loved ones.

It added: “The money raised will go to Liam’s family to give him the best goodbye he deserves.

“Liam was a funny and meaningful boy who made everyone laugh.

“We have all come together to do as much as possible for Liam’s family. Goodbye Liam and fly high.”

Locals spoke of seeing emergency services descend on the street on Sunday afternoon.

Thomas Kidd, 25, a water engineer who lives nearby, said: “It was around the time I was having my tea.

“Ambulances came screeching into the street and there were police vans there too.

“Then a CID car showed up. After that a couple of cars turned up with paramedics in them.

“Police were going around taking pictures and they’re still there this morning.

“It’s worrying to see this kind of thing outside your house.

“The fact they’re still there is even more worrying.”

Another resident said: “Police have been sitting there all night.

“I heard that the young lad there had passed away — I don’t know him but it’s horrifying to hear about. “It’s heartbreaking.” Another resident told of seeing police and ambulances at the property.

She said: “The police came flying around the corner and they’ve been there since.”
