Pharmacist Alasdair picks up ‘Chemi’
AN NHS Tayside community pharmacist has added to his trophy cabinet.
Alasdair Shearer picked up another top industry accolade at the annual Scottish Pharmacist Awards — the profession’s leading awards ceremony, which recognises the contribution of Scotland’s pharmacy champions.
Alasdair, from the Davidsons Chemist team at Perth and Kinross, walked off with the Independent Prescriber of the Year Award, which was supported by NAPP Pharmaceuticals, as a result of the work that he has been doing in his local community.
The judges said: “Alasdair exemplifies collaborative working by working with a wide range of healthcare professionals. He takes the lead in supporting other pharmacists to engage in collaborative working to help their patients.”
The judges were also impressed Alasdair recently gained an excellent rating through the General Pharmaceutical Council inspection process.
More than 450 professionals gathered at the annual Scottish Pharmacist Awards at Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre to hear who would walk away with a prestigious “Chemi”. A huge number of entries were received from every health board in Scotland across all nine categories: Pharmacist of the Future; eHealth & Innovation; Pharmacy Team Member of the Year; Independent Prescriber of the Year; Pharmacy Business Development; Pharmacist of the Year; Management of Long-Term Conditions; Community Pharmacy Team of the Year and Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year.
The evening ended with a Merit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy going to Alex MacKinnon, who is Interim CEO of Royal Pharmaceutical Society Scotland.
