Dundee double header

-

DUNDEE Comets and Dundee Tigers will line up against each other this weekend for a Scottish Cup semi-final double header at the DIA.

Tomorrow, Comets are the “home” team with face-off at 7.30pm for the first leg and, on Sunday, Tigers will welcome their derby rivals on to the ice at 6.30pm.

The winner of the aggregate encounter will go on to face SNL champions Paisley Pirates in the final in Kirkcaldy on April 22.

Tigers’ senior player Ian Carstairs commented before the games: “This is a massive weekend of hockey in Dundee. Derby games are always passionately contested and the knockout nature of this tie will give it an added edge.

“We didn’t fare that well against Comets in the league this season with all the points heading on to the Comets tally but we’ve competed well for long periods.

“Comets have a strong squad and it’s going to be big ask of our players to perform well enough over two legs to progress.

“We can’t afford to let our guard down and need to be aware of the danger Comets pose all over the ice.

“Our objective is to keep things close in the first game and then get the job done on Sunday night.

“We’ve been plagued by injuries this season and are likely to be light on personnel again this weekend. The guys that are available know what they have to do and are up for the tie.”
