- BY JUNICUS

BROUGHTY Athletic got the monkey off their back when they ended their winless Super League run with a victory over Dundonald at Whitton Park.

It was far from straight-forward, however, as the Fed to cane from behind to finally sink the Fifers.

Dundonald took the lead in 26 minutes but, in 40 minutes, Broughty were awarded a penalty when Shaka Roy was brought down in the box.

Roy took the spot-kick himself and, although the keeper got a hand to it, he couldn’t stop it crossing the line.

The second half started with the Fed on the attack and they took the lead in 62 minutes when Barry Myles stabbed home from a McLellan cross. Then, five minutes later, they wrapped up the points when Kevin Buchan headed home from a McLellan corner and, in the process, ended their 10-game run without a win.

Meanwhile, Carnoustie had the points sewn up by half-time after a blistering first-half performance against Fauldhouse.

Sam Simpson scored the opener in 11 minutes from a penalty.

Jamie McCabe made it t wo in 19 minutes when he curled a superb free-kick, and he repeated the feat just after the half-hour mark to put the Gowfers three ahead.

A minute later, Gordon McDonald outjumped the Fauldhouse defence to head home the fourth and finish the game as a contest.

Lochee United settled for a point in a dour struggle with Musselburgh, which ended goalless.

The Bluebells finished the game with 10 men after Dougie Cameron was red-carded.

Chances were few and far between over the 90 minutes, with the visitors having the best chance in the first half when Matti King broke clear.

However, his parting shot was blocked by keeper Mark Fotheringham. The second half was again dominated by defences.

Jeanfield slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Penicuik. It was a bad afternoon all round for the Perth men, who had Lee Deans and Fraser Smith red-carded.
