Grateful, but work below expectation

-

But I would like to warn any tenant who has been informed this work is to proceed in their property to be prepared for more inconvenience and expense than informed or expected. The site supervisor had a terrible attitude. The window installers do put down a plastic protector as a walkway on flooring throughout the house, but no dust sheets are used at the area being worked at to catch falling debris.

They plugged a radio into our electricity supply, on the highest volume possible, without asking our permission to do so and their attitude and language was disgraceful.

They did not respect my property or the window fittings — blinds were removed, dropped at their feet and trampled on.

As they “hacked” the old window units out, one of the walls fell in due to them impatiently removing the wooden surroundings. They used an inadequate hoover to clean up after themselves, rubble was still visible when they left.

We were told the work would take a day but we had to wait a further two weeks to get the front door and kitchen window and door done, and we were not informed in advance of the second installation date. They just turned up.

I felt the contractors stood about a lot so the entire works takes them longer to complete.

We again had to wait a further two weeks to have exterior mortar damage repaired and silicone sealed. Minor faults with the units which have been reported have yet to be rectified, seven weeks after initial work commenced.

We were told we’d get a decorating grant and a window blind allowance to have blinds altered or replaced. The blind allowance never even covered the replacement cost of one of the sets of blinds damaged by being stood on.

On completion of the work a council employee visited us to complete a questionnaire. Needless to say there were more negatives than positives and the majority of residents in the area also had made complaints about the service received.

All I can say is if you are to have windows and doors replaced by the council expect a lot more inconvenience than you are told.

BEING a tenant of Dundee City Council we were fortunate enough to have our windows and doors replaced with double glazing.

Disgruntled council tenant.
