INJURY WON’T WRECK YOUNG PARS’ CALL-UP

-

ALLAN Johnston is hopeful Dunfermline winger Paul McMullan will not see his international call-up wrecked by injury.

The on-loan Celtic winger has been included in the Scotland U/21 squad for the first time for the forthcoming friendly with Estonia after some sparkling displays for the Pars in recent weeks.

However, the 21-year-old missed Dunfermline’s 1-0 defeat at home t o Ayr United on Saturday because of a groin injury.

He will now have his fitness assessed as the Fifers prepare f or t his weekend’s trip t o face Mor ton, before he is expected to meet up with his country for next Tuesday’s clash with the Estonians.

Johnston said: “Paul felt his groin after training o n F r i d ay, s o m i s s e d Saturday.

“We’ll just need to see how it settles down over the next couple of days.

“It’s nothing serious, so I would imagine it won’t take long for him to recover.

“He’ll be desperate to get back involved.”

HAVING just secured four points out of six against the top two sides in League 1, East Fife tonight travel to second-bottom team Albion Rovers.

However, boss Barry Smith said the match at Cliftonhill will be anything but a foregone conclusion.

“We got a good result when we played them recently at home but I have already warned the players to be prepared for a different game at Cliftonhill, which is never an easy place to go to,” said the ex-Dee gaffer.
