Nancy rewarded for her service
PERTH Strathtay Harriers’ vice-chairman Nancy Davidson has been made a life member.
Nancy has been part of the group for over 30 years and was delighted to be awarded the life membership.
She said: “The years have flown by and it’s always been about the children’s enjoyment. Their success is our success.”
Club president Jim Hunter made the presentation on behalf of the club which has been running for over 60 years with over 200 members with ages ranging from 5-30.
WATER POLO
AT the final set of Super Five Water Polo British Championship fixtures in Gloucester, Caledonia lost their first game 15-12 to Manchester and their second match 17-14 to Solihull. They will be relegated to Division One.
Cheltenham clinched the title, their fourth in the Super Five, and Liverpool Lizards retained the Ladies Championship with a 5-3 win over Manchester and an 11-9 victory over Lancaster.
Dunfermline’s senior women have reached the final of the Scottish Cup after a 10-1 win over Edinburgh Warrender.
The Fifers’ U/19 girls are also through to the Scottish final.
On Tuesday, Menzieshill Whitehall play their U/16 team in a semi-final.
SWIMMING
AT the Midlands Second Division Swim Meet in Arbroath, Carnoustie Claymores were first with 171 points, second were Monifieth, third were Forfar and Menzieshill were fourth.
At the International Meet held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh, 31 countries took part and 900 competitors and Scottish swimmers made their mark with Ross Murdoch winning a hat-trick of events, the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke.
At the Menzieshill High School reunion held in Dundee’s Queen’s Hotel, there was a disappointing turnout.
Those who came enjoyed the evening of a video of the years gone by, photographs and trophies on display.
Gail Milne (nee Armstrong) has passed away.
Gail, a former pupil of Menzieshill High School, was a member of the school swim squad that took part in a number of events and tours.
Gail was a very caring person and was a specialist nurse in the Cystic Fibrosis Ward in Ninewells.
Meanwhile, British Swimming has set up an “independent factfinding i nvestigation” into claims from several para-swimmers that they were bullied by a coach.
According to a report, the complainants are understood to include several medallists from Rio 2016, where paraswimming was ParalympicsGB’s most successful sport, and the investigation has been under way for the past two months.
The allegations of bullying within swimming’s elite squad follow earlier revelations from cycling and rowing, although an i nternal review at British Rowing cleared senior coach Paul Thompson.
British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes said: “Whilst some have expressed concerns, we have immediately undertaken an independent fact-finding investigation into these.”
