We already have music in Dundee

I REFER to your article about Sistema Scotland “bringing music to children in Dundee”.

I wonder if the people behind this project attended either of Dundee schools’ spring concerts last week? There was a photo pull-out in Friday’s Tele.

If so they would have seen these remarkable events demonstrating very clearly the musical education currently provided to children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds across the city.

This is something for the city to be incredibly proud of and is of great benefit to schools and individuals.

Not only that, but this tuition is provided for free and in such innovative ways that others are hailing the “Dundee approach”.

I have no doubt that £1.4 million would be well spent in some of the city’s most deprived areas — but it doesn’t necessarily need to be spent on “bringing music to Dundee”.

It’s already here.
