Large fines would stop the litterers

-

OUR streets are filthy with general debris and litter.

Some areas of Dundee look like the aftermath of a music festival with windblown litter strewn all over the place.

You can also take your pick from furniture left in gardens and backlands.

The general public are mostly to blame.

It seems generation after generation are not taught to have a pride in their city.

Schoolchildren are one of the worst culprits.

Just visit any primary or secondary school to bear testament to this. So what’s can be done? I think large fines — as happens in towns abroad — would go a long way.

This money could then employ more street cleaners as we clearly do not have enough to tackle the problem at present.

City observer.
