Three off as ’Port’s hopes go up in smoke

-

IN the Premier League, Tayport’s hopes of promotion were all but ended by Arniston following their 2-1 victory.

To compound a frustrating day for the Fifers they had three players red-carded.

The visitors took the lead following a goalmouth scramble in five minutes but, a minute into the second half, Dale Reid hit the equaliser.

But then it all went horribly wrong for John Ovenstone’s side.

In the closing stages they had Jamie Mackie, Craig Sturrock and Sergio Alvarez ordered off and, to rub salt into the wounds, Arniston grabbed the winner through a Greig Callaghan penalty.

Violet clawed their way back from two down to earn a point against St Andrews, who took the lead in 21 minutes through a Ryan McInnes free-kick.

It looked ominous for the Pansies when Ben Anthony knocked in a second early in the second half.

But the Glenesk side fought back and goals by Kevin Scott and Ryan Dignan (pen) earned them a share.

Glenrothes beat Downfield 4-2 at Warout. The Spiders scorers were Ross Gallagher and Kieran Sturrock.

Forfar West End beat visitors Haddington 4-1. Home striker Graeme Hart scored all four goals.

RESULT of the week — Has to be LOCHEE UNITED’S remarkable comeback from three goals down at Bo’ness to win 4-3.
