Guitars pinched from car

-

A DUNDEE musician has hit out at crooks who made off with his treasured guitars.

Matthew Dempsey had finished playing a gig and returned home to Rankine Street, leaving his guitars in his Volkswagen Polo along with his amplifier.

He woke up the following day and discovered thieves had gotten into the car and made off with his prized guitars.

The 28-year-old said the guitars — an American Fender Telecaster with a natural wood finish and a J a p a n e s e To b a c c o Sunburst Fender Telecaster with a black scratch plate on it — were worth more than £1,500 at the time of purchase and said they could be worth even more now.

He said: “I went out to the car and all my stuff from my glove compartment was all over the seats. I looked in the boot and realised the guitars were gone — it was a shock. You just don’t think it is going to happen to you. I am glad they didn’t take the amplifier as that’s worth £1,000 on its own.”

Matthew, who plays in local bands The Mess Arounds and Ringer, said: “It isn’t just the financial aspect. I have a l ot of memories playing those guitars. They both have a lot of sentimental value.

“Hopefully something comes up or they try to sell the guitars to someone who is aware they are stolen.

“All you can really do is spread the word, hope they are found and that you can somehow get them back.”
