Final slots for ’Hill and Cairdy

-

Both semis in the Trident Trophy Second Division Cup went to the underdogs.

FC Menzieshill saw off Stobswell AFC — who are unbeaten in league action — by a 4-1 margin.

Stobbie’s ill discipline in this match cost them dear with four red cards giving them an impossible task.

In the other semi, Charleston would have gone in as favourites on the back of a 14-game unbeaten run but were edged out 2-1 following a late penalty by Cairdy Thistle.

It means the final will be contested by two clubs enjoying their first year as members of the association.

In the Doc Ferry’s Premier League, Cannon Fodder’s faint hopes of avoiding the play-offs suffered a blow with a 3-1 loss to Hawkhill Athletic.

Hawkie were 3-0 up before Fodder got going in the second half.

Craig Stewart netted from the spot for Fodder.

Both Dryburgh and AC Harleys would have been relieved to see the score from that game.

’Burgh went down 3-1 to Riverside CSC and The Medics’ last-minute penalty saw them edge past Harleys

FC Kettledrum climbed into third spot in the table and are a point off promotion with a game in hand after a 5-2 win over Club 83, who had benefitted from an own goal and Ryan White’s effort.

Kettledrum remain unbeaten in their league campaign.

Monifieth Hurricanes’ 6-1 loss to Ferry Mechanics means they are looking in danger of not making automatic promotion after a great start to the season.

The Mechanics had Scott Robertson (2), Darren Thomson (2) and one apiece from Jonny McBride and Peter Jones, while Kieran McCleary nabbed Monifieth’s consolation.

Wellbeats’ 3-2 win over Lochee takes them out of the automatic relegation slot and in with a chance of First Division survival.

Coldside have blown hot and cold this season but were on fire on Saturday, with a 7-2 win over DK Raiders keeping the dental students in the relegation zone.

In the Trident trophies Second Division, Dundee City continued their recent good form with a 7-0 win over Sidlaw Albion.

They have picked up of late with a change i n manager and secretary.

This weekend sees teams in action in the first round of the Memorial Cups.

The winners of the ties will go into the Shaun Kelly Memorial Trophy while losers will go into the Consolation Cup in memory of George McArthur.

Last-16 games will be played on Wednesday, April 12, so all teams are reminded they will have games scheduled should referees be available.

The quarter-finals will be scheduled for Saturday, April 15.
