Boyd’s not ready to hang up boots

-

KRIS Boyd insists he has no plans to hang up his shooting boots this summer and believes he can go on scoring goals for Kilmarnock f or another year yet.

The veteran Rugby Park poacher turns 34 in August but has triggered the option of another year on his Killie contract.

Now, after blasting five goals i n his last nine appearances, the former Rangers and Scotland frontman is convinced he can continue adding to his record Scottish Premiership scoring tally next term.

Boyd, who will skipper his side against the Gers when they visit Ayrshire tonight, said: “I’ve still got another year l eft on my contract. I’m scoring goals and still feel I’ve got more left in me yet.

“There will be a day while I wake up and realise I’ve had enough.

“But that’s not where I’m at right now.

“I’m still enjoying coming in to training and seeing the smiles on the young boys’ faces and playing alongside them. Mind you, I don’t know where I’d be without their l egs doing all the running for me.

“I’m happy and still enjoying my football so long may that continue.”

Boyd has been written off a number of times during his goal-laden career but has always managed to bounce back with important strikes.

But he admits it will not be his performances against rival top-flight sides which will sway his decision on retiring from playing duties.

“I’ve scored a few goals recently but that’s not how I will make my decision,” he explained. “I think you can always tell in training how you are fairing.

“If I don’t perform or score goals on the training pitch, or if my body i s struggling to do it day in, day out, that’s when I will say enough’s enough.”
