City too slick as they dispose of Montrose

-

DUNDEE City bounced back from a disappointing result against Raith Rovers to notch a 3-1 victory over league newcomers Montrose Ladies at Charlotte Street.

City had early chances to open the scoring with Laura-Anne Johnston and Amanda Primrose finding themselves in one-on-one situations and it seemed only a matter of time before the hosts would break the deadlock.

This came to pass when, for the third consecutive match, Laura Boag scored with a header from a Christie Reid corner.

Montrose had strength in attacking options but City pressed well and were able to mostly stifle their opponents’ threat, although a glorious chance for the visitors to equalise was blazed over.

City gave themselves a cushion when Jayne Digby lifted a pass over the defence for Primrose to race in and slot home.

The striker then grabbed her second as she made no mistake when latching on to an inch-perfect pass angled in from the right-wing by Reid to make it 3-0 going into the half-time break.

City didn’t quite show the same energy in the second half to extend their lead with a final ball sometimes lacking, although they remained in control.

Montrose, however, battled well and were rewarded as they broke upfield and their striker produced a fine shot across the goalkeeper to reduce the deficit.

City saw out the remainder of the match to take the three points and keep themselves within touching distance of the early league leaders.

Player of the Match was Tasha Ross who showed tenacity.

Dundee City now turn their attention to League Cup action as they prepare for their last-16 clash against Linlithgow Rose at Charlotte Street on Sunday (2pm).
