A HEART transplant patient is soon to walk the Angus coastline as part of a 5,000-mile trek to help raise £100,000 f or t he British Heart Foundation.

Kieran Sandwell, 45, is taking on the “Trail Of Two Hearts” challenge to mark the end of his long battle with heart disease after having a transplant eight years ago.

He i s set to arrive i n Angus on Monday after setting off on his epic trek from the British Heart Foundation’s office i n London on February 1.

Kieran, who will be visiting Carnoustie, Arbroath and Montrose, is set to spend the next four months tracing Scotland’s coast and has called on the public to support him.

He said that in Angus alone, more than 16,000 people were living with hear t and circulator y diseases.

“The inspiration for my challenge came to me about 25 years ago, but then it was something I could only dream of because of my health,” said Kieran, who hails from Hertfordshire.

“Walking the coast of Scotland will be the toughest part of this challenge to date.

“What I’m looking forward to most is meeting some new Scottish friends who I hope will keep me company along the way.

“My second heart has enabled me to do so much and I’m urging the public to help me support the BHF’s groundbreaking research by sponsoring me, or walking with me.”
