MasterChef winners given a grilling by pupils
TWO of the country’s mostacclaimed chefs visited a Fife primary school, where they were quizzed on their careers and their rise to TV stardom by the pupils.
Two winners of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals — current title holder Gary Maclean and 2014 winner Jamie Scott — visited Newport Primary to inspire pupils to enjoy a healthy, balanced diet and the role of local ingredients.
The two champions spoke to an audience of more than 200 pupils about the importance of learning to cook and a healthy balanced diet, as well as their careers and experiences of appearing on MasterChef.
Pupils and teachers then took the opportunity to ask the chefs questions, including if the skills test on MasterChef: The Professionals was as scary as it looked. Both chefs answered “yes” to that question!
Gary said: “Meeting Jamie today was great as he was one of the inspirations which spurred me on to try to get on to MasterChef: The Professionals.
“I was also really impressed with the questions the children asked and their genuine interest in learning more about healthy food and careers in the food industry.”
Jamie, who now owns t he Newport Restaurant, located just a short distance from the school, said: “I’ve had a fantastic time speaking to such a great bunch of enthusiastic kids.
“It’s so important children have the opportunity to be inspired about a healthy diet and also that they have a good understanding of where food comes from and how to cook tasty, nutritious meals.”
