ROUND-UP Ralph double in Wanderers major victory

MJV Dundee Wanderers won 2-1 in what was possibly the men’s Division Two hockey title decider against Inverleith at home.

Bobby Ralph opened the Wanderers scoring in the 20th minute but Inverleith soon equalised through Murray Fotheringh­am.

Both had scoring chances in the second half with Wanderers having the edge. Then, in the 52nd minute, a Wanderers penalty corner proved to be the winner with Ralph scoring again.

Against a depleted Dundee University team, Wanderers had a 12-0 win, Ralph and Greg Pearson hitting hat-tricks.

Wanderers are scheduled to play Dundee University again on the 22nd of this month. Hopefully, by then, the points will have been awarded for Greenock’s Saturday morning call-off 10 days ago.

All being well, Wanderers will be promoted to Division One.

For Wanderers, this would be an indoor and outdoor double with promotion to Division One in both formats

Also in Division Two, Harris FP lost 6-0 to St Andrews University on Saturday and the students lost 4-1 Dunfermlin­e on Sunday.

Harris are safe from relegation but Dundee University will go down.

In the men’s Division Three, Monarchs started well against Stirling University at Dalnacraig on Saturday but ended up losing 2-1.

In Division One of the men’s National League, it looks as if Grange, who had a 4-1 over Hillhead, and Kelburne, who beat Watsonians 6-1, will be the top two in the division followed by Grove-Menzieshil­l, who suffered a 4-3 defeat against Clydesdale.

Menzieshil­l’s recent record is not so good but, in the play-off games, they tend to step up.

Menzieshil­l II, who play in Regional Division Two, won 4-2 over Inverleith II.

Their last game is against Edinburgh University III but, with a nine-point lead, they have the title.

In Regional Division One, Grange II are runaway winners despite losing 3-1 to secondplac­ed Watsonians II.

Ladies Division One leaders are still Edinburgh University following a 3-2 win over Grove Menzieshil­l.

Grove secured second with a 4-1 win over MCC Western.

Western Wildcats are safe in fourth following a 6-0 win over Erskine SM. to

The top four will fight it out for the title after their last league games on the 22nd of this month.

In Division Two, St Andrews University lost 4-0 to Grange. GHK and Grange are the top two.

Championsh­ip A League scores included MCC Western III 4 Grove II 2.

The last scheduled sessions for National Leagues are April 22 and 23.

The following weekend it is the various cup finals, men on Saturday and ladies on Sunday.

Then, on May 6 and 7, it is back to league hockey with the various play-off games with anything from Euro places to relegation to be decided.

All teams in the Midland men’s leagues have been asked to verify scores and notify any discrepanc­ies to Bill Garland by tomorrow. Particular attention is directed to re-scheduled games on tomorrow.

In the Midland Ladies KO Cup, Perthshire II drew 1-1 against Madras, who then won 4-2 on penalties. In the League Plate, Grove III had a 3-2 win over Blairgowri­e.

Perthshire Ladies II had a 6-0 win over Brechin in the Midland Division One and sit two points above Madras, who have a game in hand.

Kinross II have won Division Two.
