‘RODGERS DEAL GOOD FOR SCOTTISH GAME’

-

FORMER Celtic striker A n dy Wa l k e r cl a i m s Brendan Rodgers’ new contract is good news for the whole of Scottish football.

Rodgers signed a new four-year deal on Friday, days after leading Celtic to the Ladbrokes Premiership title in his first season at Parkhead.

Celtic are 26 points clear and unbeaten in domestic football this season but Walker feels the Scottish game in general will benefit from Rodgers’ involvement.

Walker said: “Brendan Rodgers is making all the right noises. He is prepared to show a level of commitment to Celtic that perhaps we were unsure of, because he has got such a magnificent reputation.

“I think it’s a boost, not only for Celtic, but just for Scottish football in general that a manager of his calibre is prepared t o commit himself to that length of time.

“Now, of course, if a huge club comes in and wants his services Celtic will get a bit of compensation but I think there is a commitment from Brendan Rodgers to try and make his mark in the Champions League.

“He got a couple of draws against Man City this season, they played really well. I t hink i t ’s exciting times for Celtic because he has improved so many players.

“His eye for a deal in the transfer market, it’s already shown he knows what he is doing there.”
