European target for St Johnstone

-

ST JOHNSTONE boss Tommy Wright is ignoring A b e r d e e n ’s collapse against Rangers ahead of their Premiership clash at McDiarmid Park tomorrow.

The second-placed Dons, chasing an 11th straight home win, were on top in the second period at Pittodrie until the visitors scored t hrough Kenny Miller in the 79th minute before firing i n another couple to go nine points behind them in the table.

However, Wright will c o n s i d e r A b e r d e e n ’s season overall, which has included a Betfred Cup Final appearance with a William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final meeting with Hibernian to come.

He said: “It is only one result. They had a 15 minute spell which can happen to all teams.

“They were the dominant team up to that point so I can’t read too much into it.

“That happens. Rangers defended well and ultimately Aberdeen haven’t taken their chances and we have had games like that, in both ways.

“So it would be unfair to isolate 15 minutes of Aberdeen in what has been another great season for them.”

Saints sit fourth and are jousting with fifth-placed Hearts, who are five points behind, f or a possible European spot.

Wright said: “We don’t want to relax, we don’t want to finish the season poorly, we want to finish strongly and we know if we finish strongly there is a good chance we can get fourth place and a good chance we can get into Europe.”
