ROUND-UP Dundee outfit look to secure top-flight place

-

THERE were no National League games on Saturday or Sunday but this weekend is crunch time for a number of teams, in a full schedule of more than 50 games.

In the men’s Division 1 the leaders Grange host fourth-placed Western Wildcats while second placed Kelburne visit mid-table Edinburgh University. Grange have a one point advantage but only a win will be certain to clinch the title as they have only a better goal difference by two.

Th ird-p laced Grove-Menzieshill are safe and play second-bottom Watsonians on DISC at 1pm while in fifth place Uddingston require a win over bottom team Gordonians to have a chance of taking the fourth place from Western and getting i nto the top f our play-off games for a European place. Hillhead v Clydesdale is the other Division 1 game.

In Division 2 the leaders MJV Dundee Wanderers host bottom-of-the-table Dundee University at Riverside at 1.30pm while second placed Inverleith host Harris FP and the top two should remain unchanged, with the top team getting automatic promotion.

Dundee University still have two outstanding games rescheduled, Greenock on the 29th and Strathclyde University on the 30th

Perthshire 1sts sit top in Division 3 with a three point advantage over Strathclyde University and the Perth team play fourth-placed Erskine SM in Edinburgh on Saturday when a draw will ensure promotion for the Fair City team.

Mid-table Monarchs 1sts host Highland at Dalnacraig at 2pm.

In Regional Division 2 Menzieshill 2nds have the title, and promotion, secured and a win over Edinburgh University 3rds on Saturday will make it 17 wins in 18 games.

In Regional 1, Grange 2nds have two games to play and a lead on 13 points so the Title is secure even before they play Watsonians 2nd tomorrow and Kelburne 2nds on Saturday.

The ladies Division 1 leaders, Edinburgh University, should beat Watsonians on Saturday but if they don’t then Grove Menzieshill could snatch the title if they beat MCC Western at DISC (2.30pm) but if the visitors win they would knock Grove out of second place.

MJV Dundee Wanderers host Kelburne at Dalnacraig (3.30pm) and a mid-table finish is secure but a win could make that a top-five place for Wanderers.

In Division 2 neither St Andrews nor Dundee University teams have games, having completed their programmes, and in the Ladies Championship A Division, Kinross host MCC Western 3rds. Meanwhile, i n the Championship B, Perthshire 1sts, Dundee University 2nds and St Andrews University 2nds are all in action

In the Midland men’s leagues Division 1 there is a full schedule on Saturday with Wanderers 4ths being the out-of-action odd team.

Top-of-the-table Wanderers 3rds play Menzieshill 4ths at Riverside at 10.30am. There are no scheduled games in the Midland ladies leagues at the weekend.

There is a series of games, under the tag of “Development Fixtures”, on Sunday, for teams involved in the Midland men’s Division 2 and match schedules have been sent to clubs.

Two venues will be used, one is DISC from 1pm to 4pm and the other venue will be intimated early in the week. Each team involved will have 3 “time-reduced” games at the same venue.
