Fab Rav a no go for Dundee post

-

DUNDEE will not put their fate in the hands of a rookie manager.

That’s why t he Dark Blues are set to say a polite “no t hanks” t o Italian superstar Fabrizio Ravanelli if he goes ahead with his plan to apply.

And it’s why club captain James McPake, a man the board rate extremely highly, is not being considered for the role as interim team boss.

Ravanelli, who briefly played at Dens Park in 2003, has said he’s ready to fly to Scotland and take the job.

But the 48-year-old does not have the kind of experience managing director John Nelms outlined as being needed to save his club’s Premiership status. He believes the man required must have an extensive knowledge of the Scottish game.

And, while the Dens Park hierarchy see McPake as a potential future manager, they don’t feel throwing him in at the deep end is an option.

Already a l ong list of candidates have been linked with the post but some of them are also non-starters.

An interim team of vastlyexperienced former boss Archie Knox and ex-Manchester United star Brian McClair have been mentioned.

But the Tele understands Knox — a life-long Dee fan — has no plans to come out of retirement, so that also won’t happen.

Former Falkirk boss Steven Pressley does appear to be on the list of possible interim managers and the likes of Alan Stubbs and Alex Neil could be in the frame for the job long-term.

After the good work he’s done at Morton, Dens legend Jim Duffy has also been li nked with a third spell as manager.

Nelms, though, is keeping his cards close to his chest and not commenting on any speculation.
